History

  • In 2003, Prof. Lovett Lowson’s set up a TB laboratory at the basement of Zankli Medical Centre in Abuja to support his Ph.D. research project bordering Tuberculosis
  • It later transformed to the status of a Zonal TB Reference laboratory supporting the country in its first TB National survey in 2012
  • The drive for growth and transformation of the TB laboratory to a Research institute prompted the partnership with Bingham University in 2014 bringing about the name change from Zankli TB Laboratory to Zankli Research Center

Mission Statement

To metamorphose into an international research center of excellence in tropical disease; charting new causes and blazing the trail on novel ideas that seek to accelerate changes in the health sector spectrum across the globe.

Scope and Research

Zankli Research Center has over the years evolved and served the NTBLCP in the following capacity:

  • A Zonal TB Reference Laboratory, servicing 6 North central states for TB and DR-TB testing

  • Assisted in the Post Marketing Evaluation of Xpert Catridges, SD-Bioline test kit and the 1st and 2nd Line LPA kit

  • Assisted in the preparation of EQA Panels for all the diagnostic platforms for the detection Tuberculosis
